The seventh and final Mecano studio album Modus Vivendi sees the daylight, 46 years after their legendary debut EP Untitled. For roughly the last decade the band around founder, singer, visual artist and writer Dirk Polak have been operating under the name Mecano Un-Ltd in a steady line-up, next to Polak consisting of guitarist and keyboardist Mick Ness, guitarist Mark Ritsema, bassist Peter Jessen and drummer Sin Banovic. After an intensive period of live shows, playing the venues from Netherlands to Brazil, all members got involved in writing the new material which demanded for a new album.
Enter Mecano Unlimited.
At their energetic live shows Mecano Unlimited still bring out Mecano cult hits from the early days. Links, Escape The Human Myth or Untitled, all those timeless songs inevitably influenced the creative process of writing the new material.
While Polak found new, more clear and social visions in his tone of his characteristic voice, other band members contributed an equally great deal to the writing and recording process.
Modus Vivendi is a tight, artful, sometimes playful, sometimes dark and above all, a visionary record. A true band effort that will always be related to the name Mecano, as long as this band is fronted by Dirk Polak.
Anno 2026, the band is very much alive, even though Polak (72) has hinted that Modus Vivendi will be their last studio move to record.
Modus Vivendi is out on 13 March 2026 as a CD, 180gms Green Vinyl LP, 180gms Red Vinyl LP plus a very limited Signature Edition (with exclusive 180gms Black Vinyl LP, CD, vintage record tote bag and numbered post card). All versions are available for pre-order from the tonefloat store now.
